USO?

ある情報筋によれば今回の新G4はあくまでつなぎで、4月近辺で1.4Gシングル1.2Gデュアルというモデルが出るらしい。メモリもDDR採用とか。ほんとかな？あくまでウワサですかね？そういえばG5チップが現実味をおびてきたようですが、G4から具体的に何が変わるのかな？？搭載マックの登場時期は？みんなであれこれ予想しましょうよ♪

早いうちに発表するかも知れないけど5月末発売か・・・・・
・・イヤ、無いでしょう。まず。前モデルでさえ在庫がだぶついて
困ってるとかいってるし。
なんにしろ今モデルはつなぎには違いないと思うけど
あの会社のことですからしばらくはこれで引っ張っていくんじゃないかな。
７月のエキスポくらいまではこのままだと思うけど。
PBG4はスピードバンプしそうではありますが。ひっそりと。

とまぁこの位夢も希望も薄く持っている位がちょうどいい会社だと
思います。期待してもあんまり良いこと無いってことで。

最近噂系サイトとかはアテにならないですからねー。年末にはＧ５が
エキスポでって騒いでましたから。予想というより期待って感じ。
２ヶ月でモデルチェンジは有り得ないでしょう。アップルがそんな
売り方したことってないと思いますし、アップルの重役も「全ラインを
刷新したから東京も含めて数ヶ月新製品は出ない」って言ってたらしい
じゃないですか。（これは現行品を売りたいからって気もするけど）
結局はなんだかんだで半年近く引っ張るんでしょう。
PowerPC7470が1.5Gで夏に向けて開発中なんて噂もありますが、次の改訂
がＧ４にしろＧ５にしろさすがに新アーキテクチャのマザーボードを
採用してくるでしょうね。システムバスの高速化（HyperTransport?)と
ＤＤＲメモリの搭載は当然としてIEEE1394b(GigaWire?)とUSB2.0、PCI-X
なんてのも載ってくるかも知れません。（ホントか？）
ただ新筐体は見た目のインパクトとして重要なんでPowerMacＧ５と同時
にデビューなんじゃないでしょうか。iMacがＧ４になりSuperDriveも
搭載された今、PowerMacの存在が危うくなってますから（PowerBookにも
言えますが）それら新技術か超高速Ｇ４またはＧ５でフラッグシップを
アピールしないと…そうなると春のWWDCかEXPO NYでしょうねー☆

う〜ん、みなさん読みが深いですね。過剰な期待はがっかりにつながるかも。しかし追加モデルという形をとるのかな。噂系サイト情報ではなく印刷機材屋情報なんです。現行部品（マザーやSDRAM?）を消化するためのモデルで最終的な出荷台数は少ないそうです。印刷機材は各入出力機器・RIP等互換性・安定動作基準が厳しいため、かなり早い段階で仕様や発売時期の通達があるんだとか。しかしやはり噂は噂。話半分にどうぞ。

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, will unveil a new consumer product that is "innovative, revolutionary and different" at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco on Jan. 7, the company said.

Fueling speculation about a flat-panel iMac, Apple said the "powerful, user-friendly and eye-catching" product will be launched worldwide and is expected to have an "enormous impact." The statements were made in an invitation sent to journalists in the Netherlands late last week.

Apple won't give out more details.

"We have already been too open, judging by the interest this is generating," said Ton van Garderen, general manager for Apple in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, adding that the Dutch invitation could be "more candid than those sent out in other countries."

However, analysts earlier this month said Apple placed a large order for 15-inch flat-panel LCDs for its all-in-one PC, according to media reports. Taiwanese laptop manufacturer Quanta Computer claimed to have won a contract to manufacture the new iMac.

Earlier this year Apple said it would only ship its computers with LCDs, but didn't specify the iMac at that time. The iMac has not had a major makeover since its launch in 1998.

Van Garderen would not confirm the flat-panel order and declined to say whether Apple feels the iMac is ready for a new look.

Brian Gammage, principal analyst with Dataquest, a unit of Gartner, said he had heard the talk about a flat-panel iMac and said the market has "been expecting an iMac product refresh for some time."

Gammage said he had spotted sketches of what is said to be the new product on various Mac-enthusiast Web sites and those make the new product look appealing.

"If this is what it will look like it would be an innovative approach to the market. It is an unobtrusive, low-profile unit, which is the direction PCs are headed," he said. "One assumes it will come with wireless input peripherals, building on the AirPort system."

After the Power Mac G4 Cube debacle, Apple needs a new desktop unit, according to Gammage.

"Given that we saw the Cube go away - it failed to grasp the imagination and the pockets of users - there is a definite requirement for a new desktop PC product," he said.

Sales of the iMac have been declining, bringing calls for a refreshed product. In its fourth quarter, ended Sept. 29, Apple said it shipped 294,000 units, slightly down from 306,000 in the third quarter and a significant drop from 571,000 in Apple's last quarter of 2000.

Apple Computer May Unveil New IMac, Analyst Says (Update1)

Cupertino, California, Dec. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Computer Inc. may be preparing to introduce a remodeled iMac computer in January to reinvigorate sales, Morgan Stanley analyst Gillian Munson said in a report to clients.

Initial product orders for the new iMac, which may feature a flat-panel screen, call for 100,000 units to be produced next month, Munson said, citing unnamed contacts. The new computer could help Apple increase iMac sales to 500,000 units per quarter from current levels of less than 300,000, she said.

``This product could generate a lot of excitement,'' Munson said in the report. ``Our reseller contacts have been reporting for some time that iMac demand is weak, mainly as a result of the dated form factor.''

Apple shares rose 63 cents to $21.68 in early afternoon trading, and have climbed 46 percent this year.

Munson wasn't immediately available to comment.

Sales of iMac, introduced in 1998, peaked at 702,000 units in the holiday season of 1999, Munson said. She forecasts sales this holiday season of 288,000 units.

Apple typically introduces new products at MacWorld trade shows, next scheduled for the first week of January in San Francisco. Apple disappointed some investors and customers by failing to introduce a redesigned iMac at the MacWorld in New York in July.

Apple spokeswoman Vanessa Rios declined to comment, saying the company doesn't discuss rumors or speculation.
