トキメキの中、新宿ニコンサロンで実機見てきました。

一目見てその小ささに驚愕。ちょうど隣にＤ５０が置いてあり、ボディーサイズの違いが一目瞭然。とにかく小さい。けれども不思議と愛着のわく大きさとデザイン。

その昔、”ＥＭ”という機種が”リトルニコン”と呼ばれていたことを思い出さずにはいられず、ちょっとノスタルジックな気分の出会いとなりました。

持ってみた・・・Ｋissデジタルの様に小指がはみだすんじゃないかと気になっていたけれど、自然と小指はグリップに納まった。これなら片手でも十分いける・・・不安は一気に解消されました。

電源を入れる。シャッターを切る。２.５型のモニターに撮った画像が映し出される。これが実にキレイ！Ｄ８０以上なんじゃないかと感じた。オートフォーカスの素早さはＫissデジタル・Ｄ８０の方が上手かなぁ。

大型モニターの背景には壁紙として撮った画像が使えるので設定してみた。パソコンの壁紙に好みの絵を設定する様に好きな人・風景・モノなんかが壁紙になるのは絶対楽しい！

長くなるのでこの辺で一旦終わりますが、例えば「１０００万画素」や「２.５コマ／秒より早いこと」や「上記機種の様な細かい設定・機能」なんかが絶対条件でないのであれば、気軽に持ち歩き、そばに置き、使っていくことが楽しくなるパートナーになると思います。ちょっトほめすぎかな？でもニコンさんヤッタネ！率直な感想でした。

This model is a bargain with double zoom lenses ,only cost 900 Euro.

I am waiting this E400 shipped to China or Singapore , well it is a respectably priced , nice camera that is hard to beat.

the D40 is a very nice model too , a review said you actually put it into your jacket's pocket easily.

they seem like SLRS that I was waiting for years to come .

Finally , I really think Olympus is a stupid company in term of marketing sense.

They seem not aware of how popular they are in US and
Canada , if they had known that , they would've released the excellent beauty (E400)in CA , then I would not have had to fly to China to get it.


Olympus was ranked no1 in the US customer satisfaction report 4 years in a row .

They should have known that we love Olympus more than Pentax or Panasonic at least .


Not sure they are more beloved than Canon or Nikon , though.

This Nikon is also a cute model , which reminded me of my father always wiping an Olympus OM series camera with his t-shirt when I was a kid.



Is the E400 released in Japan ?


Now , every body here seems interested in
Pentax K10D , but I think this model is not as good as the E400 because of the Noise.

Also many guys at DPreview.com were complaining of the build quality of this model.


Plus , Pentax is a small company not having enough money to provide as good serivice as Olympus.

Olympus is under-rated in Japan , that is why Olympus is focusing on US and EU market.

Well , it is time for Japan to realize that Olympus is one of the best and most selling camera brands in the world .


So is Nikon and both should be more respected.


The D80 is selling and rated better than all other models in the US and Asia.

Canon is well-recognised and selling well , but so is Nikon .

Also , it seems like Sony A100 is not popular here , but this model won the American Camera of the year.

For Sony , I would like to say thanks for producing this great camera at this price.

But this does not support SD card , so I like the Nikon D80 better.

The Olympus E400 supports CF and XD.

The Nikon D40 and D80 only support SD.

Nikon is smart , CF is a dead media soon so.

Any way , I like this D40 as much as the E400 , probably buy both and show to my sister and father who can not buy the E400 because they are in Hawaii.


Thanks for Olympus releasing this breath-takingly beautiful camera for EU and Asia.


But next time , please release it in the US too, just before the PMA show .


Also , one request to Nikon , please design D40-sized D80-like model , it will sell a lot .



And stop using the CF card , which is absolutely useless , slow , big and stupid looking.

The 6mp sensor is a great thing , the sensor is well thought- out and produces vibrant pics and save alot of memory space.

PS. the E400's file size is huge , a raw file takes up 28mb on average, and a Jpeg SHQ image file takes up 7.2mb on average, meaning ,Olympus uses low compression and this is good because its image quality is superb.

A review says this new sensor is made by Panasonic, but not noisy.....

一眼レフというと、メーカーにとって
高機能化→価格維持→収益貢献という図式が
あったはずなので、それを打破しつつあるニコン
はエライですね。

はじめてスペック見たときには、これほど盛り上がるカメラだとは思わなかったのですが、D50と並んだ写真を見てその小ささに衝撃を受けました。思わず手に取ってみたくなる気持ちがよく分かります。

ホントはD50で、これぐらいのサイズを実現したかったのでは、という気がしてきました。

まだ実機に触っていないんですけど、僕もそう思います。
小ささ、軽さ、愛嬌。これらも性能の内ですよね。
初心者向けと言われていますけど、現ニコンユーザーでも買ってしまう人は沢山出てきそうです。僕はガマンするつもりです･･･

ＥＭもリトルニコンの愛称がピッタリで、キュートな印象だったことを今でも覚えています。

はるきちゃんさん、丸木戸さん、GLAND BLUEさん、Ｄ７０にはまりかけさんこんにちは

その小さなＤ４０ですがそのキュートなボディーと裏腹に実は恐るべき戦略機種なんじゃないかという気がしてます。それは単に小さくて安いグレードのカメラではないということ・・・

本格一眼ユーザーには、むしろ持ち運びなどの機動力に優れたサブ機として頼れる一台になると思うし・・・

エントリー一眼ユーザーには、経済的にも持ち運びにもあまりかさばらないうれしい一台になるし・・・

ハイクラスコンデジやネオ一眼購買層にはＦＺ５０やＦ９１００と同じクラスの大きさがＯＫで若干の予算ＵＰさえ許すのなら、きっと満足できる一台なるし・・・

と かなり幅の広いユーザーをターゲットにしていると思うのです。
そのキュートな姿の下に秘めた高性能がこれからどう評価されていくかが楽しみです。
